KachiZone had the opportunity to interview a raving Nigerian-Abuja based fashion designer, Sylvia Jones Fashions Creative Director; Sylvia Jones. 

In this exclusive interview, she spoke about fashion trends to watch in 2014, globally and in Nigeria.

KachiZone: When did you enter the fashion industry?

Sylvia Jones: well I've  been a fashion loving person ever since i was a little girl, i remembered i used to make dress up and all that, so in 2009 i had to travel to Milan to study my passion "Fashion." The study was for 18 months after which i worked with few fashion stores for couple of months, then decided to come back home to start my own fashion line which is now known as Sylvia Jones Fashions and we started full operation in 2012.

KachiZone: What motivated you into becoming a designer?

Sylvia Jones: Basically i would say my passion for fashion was my number one motivator. I am also motivated by successful designers like; Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Dior and many more, in-fact am  inspired by great designers.

KachiZone: Which Nigerian designers inspires you?

Sylvia Jones: I have a lot of them that inspires me like Deola Sagoe, Zizi Cardow and many more

KachiZone: What are your customer base like?

Sylvia Jones: Male and female, celebrities, working class, everyday woman, and of course every fashion loving person would like my designs

KachiZone: Are your brands affordable?

Sylvia Jones: Lol.... My brands are definitely not cheap but they are very affordable

KachiZone: What would be the fashion trend to expect in 2014:

Sylvia Jones: A lot my brother, Floral prints, men inspired jacket are very much in trend now for ladies and it will last for awhile also  coloured block dresses. While, men short, jackets, old Navy jackets are back also not forgetting embellished shirts, African prints jackets for men.

KachiZone: Where do you see African designers in next 10 years?

Sylvia Jones: Going to New-York, Milan and Paris Fashion shows etc. because African designers and fashion icons are taking over.

KachiZone: What are your advise to young designers like you?

Sylvia Jones: Don't give up, focus, pray hard and everything will fall in place in due time.
