Apologise or face disgrace, Boyloaf tells Danjuma

Boyloaf
TY Danjuma
Former Commander of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, Victor Ebikabowei Ben, alias General Boyloaf, has asked the former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd), who called for the arrest of Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, himself (Boyloaf) and others to apologize for his scandalous demand.   Boyloaf, who said he would not have dignified Danjuma with a response because of his age, said since he elected to make the infamous call in a political event to score cheap political point and further denigrate the Niger Delta, he should say sorry not only to the three ex-militant leaders, but to  Niger-Deltans.   Stating that Danjuma should have been arrested and prosecuted… if not that successive governments were compromised, he said, “ My best advice for the famed general is to keep quiet and hide his head in shame or else he will be disgraced.”   Boyloaf said, “My brothers and I only intervened when we saw an emerging trend that has consequences on the life of the President, and we thought we should be commended for drawing strong attention to this ugly scenario where the President of our country is pummeled with stones.” Culled

Secondary school pupils found floating on Osun River

The residents of the Ijetu area of Osogbo have been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the corpses of two pupils on the Osun River.
It was gathered that a woman had gone to the river to fetch water when she found the corpses of the two pupils floating on the river.
A resident of the area told our correspondent on Thursday that the woman dropped her bucket and ran back to the community where she raised the alarm.
It was learnt that the matter was later reported to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and a rescue team from the agency was deployed in the scene.
It was gathered that the pupils had gone missing on Monday, while their parents and other relatives had been looking for them.
The parents were said to have broken down in tears on seeing the corpses of their children on Wednesday when their bodies were recovered.
The pupils were identified as Samson Obasanjo and Kabiru, pupils of Junior Secondary School 2 at Ife-Oluwa Middle School, Osogbo.
Some persons said one of the two victims was going to a bakery where he normally worked after school hours when the incident happened.
But our correspondent, who visited the school gathered that seven pupils had gone to the area where the incident happened to pluck some fruits.
One of the victims was said to have jumped inside the river to swim to the other side of the river where a cherry tree was, but did not come out.
It was learnt that after a while, the second victim reportedly jumped inside the river to see why the first had not come out and he too disappeared.
The remaining five pupils were said to have waited for the two victims to come out, but after the duo did not come out, they were said to have sworn to an oath that they would not disclose what happened to their colleagues to anybody.
A resident of the area told our correspondent that students of the school and other public schools around the area were known for truancy.
The Head, Disaster Rescue Team of the NSCDC in Osun State, Mr. Olufemi Awofade, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the team had removed the corpses of the pupils.
He said after recovering the corpses of the pupils, their parents took charge and called the worshipers of Osun goddess to perform some rites on them before burial at the riverbank.
Awofade said, “We got a call that a certain woman went to fetch water at the Osun River on Wednesday and she saw corpses on the water.”
The principals of School 2 and School 3 at Ife-Oluwa Middle School declined comment. The two principals told our correspondent, who visited the school, that “we don’t grant press interviews.” Culled

Photos Jonathan Gets HUGE support at the PDP Campaign in Port Harcourt

I keep saying that am not a 100% fan of Jonathan for few reasons which i know can be corrected. Nevertheless, he's Nigeria's better option in this our transition process, so as to ensure a consolidation.
Regarding this post caption, President Goodluck Jonathan was in Port Harcourt yesterday for his re-election campaign and boy the crowd of supporter was enormous!
I was wondering if Rotimi Amaechi was even in Port Harcourt or in Lagos State which happens to be his permanent domicile lately.... Also i wondered what happened to his earlier threat of denying Jonathan use of the Stadium?... Hmm empty threat... How in the WORLD can a governor dare a PRESIDENT? Well its obvious that empty vessels makes the loudest noise...

Lebanese couple allegedly tortures woman

A woman, Mrs. Grace Okpara, has reported to the police that she was allegedly tortured by her bosses, who are Lebanon nationals.
Our correspondent gathered that Grace worked as a cleaner at a logistics company in Ibafo, Ogun State, where the Lebanese couple ─ Joseph and Hala Yasbek ─ were members of the management.
It was learnt that on Wednesday, January 14, Grace, who claimed she was dragged on the ground by her bosses during an argument, reported the matter at the Ibafo Police Division.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, 37-year-old Grace who hails from Ishan, Edo State, said she was assaulted for alleged dereliction of duty.
She said, “I work as a cleaner at the Lebanese company, and I earn N20,000 as salary. The incident happened on January 14 at about 11.30am. We were three working as cleaners in the company.
“That day, Hala said I did not clean the premises very well, but as I tried to explain, she kicked me and I fell. Minutes later when the husband showed up, I reported Hala to him, but he also slapped me.
“I fell ill after the incident and went to the hospital for treatment. I was treated at a private hospital in Ibafo. I was discharged on Thursday and then went to report to the police. The fee for my treatment was paid by the police at Ibafo.”
Grace’s husband, Uzoma, said they had also reported the matter to the National Human Rights Commission.
He said, “My wife has spent four years and two months at the company. She started with N15,000 and her salary grew to N20,000 over four years. The assault my wife suffered is part of the inhuman treatments by bosses at the company.
“We reported to the police and the NHRC so that they could look into this matter. My wife was assaulted at work. This is not proper.”
When our correspondent visited the company on Tuesday, the security personnel refused him access to speak with the management.
However, the Yasbeks, who have been invited by the police, said in their statement that the allegation of torture was not true.
The couple explained that it was Grace that attempted to beat Hala, while the husband, Joseph, tried to protect his wife during the scuffle.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident. He added that the police were making efforts on mediation.
He said, “The two Lebanese were invited, and we have asked them to come back with officials of the company. The Lebanese husband explained that it was the complainant who wanted to hit his wife, and he had to block her (Grace) by pushing her away.
“The fact is that the two parties had been having conflicts for some time.
“It is not a matter of assault alone. We are trying to mediate between them.
“But if the woman feels she had been so badly maltreated, the police can charge the matter to court.”

Indonesia ready to execute 7 foreigners, rejects appeals

Indonesia is ready to execute seven foreigners on death row after their appeals for presidential clemency were rejected, an official said, despite an international outcry following recent executions.
Authorities had already revealed that the two Australian leaders of the "Bali Nine" drug-smuggling gang had lost their appeals for clemency from President Joko Widodo, and would likely soon face the firing squad.
A spokesman for the attorney-general's office revealed that a further five foreign drug convicts had recently lost their appeals, from countries including France, Brazil, Nigeria and Ghana.
Four Indonesians on death row had also lost their appeals.
"The attorney general's office now has 11 convicts on death row ready to be executed," spokesman Tony Spontana said late Wednesday.
Spontana said a decision had not yet been made on when or where the convicts would be executed, only that more than one would face the firing squad in the next round.
Indonesia earlier this month executed six drug offenders, including five foreigners, prompting a furious Brazil and the Netherlands -- whose citizens were among those put to death -- to recall their ambassadors. culled

One dead as robbers attack bank’s ATM in Ekiti

Armed robbers on Wednesday attacked the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of a branch of United Bank for Africa (UBA) located on Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti, carting away an undisclosed amount of money.
A source disclosed that an unidentified person was shot dead during the attack, but Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Taiwo Lakanu who confirmed the robbery attack, however, said no life was during the attack on the ATM.
An eyewitness said he saw a lifeless body in front of the bank early in the morning when being conveyed to the morgue but could not identify the victim.
Lakanu said the bank was attacked around 2am on Wednesday disclosing that one of the armed robbers had been arrested and he is helping the police to unravel others on the run.
When journalists visited the bank, there was a large presence of police around the bank.
Also customers who besieged the bank for transactions could not be attended to as the financial institution locked its doors.
Officials the bank refused to speak, they directed newsmen to their head office in Lagos.
The attack had also sent fears to some banks in the metropolis as many of them did not open for operation.
Customers who spoke to journalists lamented incessant attacks on banks in the state and called on the government to address it without further delay.
The Commissioner of Police said his men were already investigating the incident adding that those connected with the robbery would be apprehended.

Ex-militant bathes former lover with acid

an accidental meeting between 24-year-old hair stylist, Miss Juliet Osimen from Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State, and Austin, a native of Emu-Unoh, Ndokwa West Area, Delta State, in Warri, glued them together.
Barely three years into the affair, Austin, shattered the promising life of his lover with a cruel acid bath.
Today, after battling to survive with a year-long intensive care at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin, Edo State, Juliet still requires over N5 million lifeline for a medical trip to Indian, as she struggles to pick up the pieces of her devastated life.

… in the beginning
Juliet met Austin while working at a fast food centre in the Niger Cat neighbourhood of Ekpan, Delta State, where her father, Pastor Sunday Osimen, farmer and Head at the Mountain of God’s Grace Ministry in the area, also owns a modest home.

Recalling the good times, Juliet said: “Austin was very generous in the relationship and often granted most of the requests I made. As a result, I hardly hesitated when he started making proposals for marriage and coming close to my family.
“When we met, he was living with his uncle at Nnewi Street, off Aka Avenue, Effurun.
“As the relationship grew, we rented a self-contained apartment at satellite Ugolo community, Okpe Council area, where we shared privacy occasionally, while I still lived with my parents.
‘My fears’
“Though, I cherished his uncommon generosity towards me and my siblings, I started getting worried about the source of his income, which to me did not connect with the generator repairs job he told me he does for a living.

“My suspicions were confirmed the day we went to Obiaruku for the marriage of his friend. There is a particular bag he does not allow me or anyone else touch at all.
“This fateful day, as he was having an after wedding drinking spree with friends in the hotel we lodged, I opened the secret bag in our room.
“I was shocked by two items I found. An identity card as a Federal Government Amnesty beneficiary and a document list of guns and other dangerous weapons submitted by his group during the arms mop up.
“From that moment, my interest in the affair died and I wanted out immediately. I knew I was living with an unrepentant criminal because he is easily irritated and always bragging about how tough he is and how he can deal with anyone and go away with it.

Conflict
“That night at Obiaruku, I confronted him on his criminal identity and why he kept it from me. He said he was worried I would leave him and he does not want to lose me.

“That moment, I made it clear I was no longer interested and would not marry a criminal disguising as repentant. I meant every word of it.
“But I knew it was dangerous to make a sudden quit, so I started limiting my contact with him and thinking of how best to stop the affair permanently.
“Then, I further learned that the man I was planning to marry is a father of three, married to a woman elsewhere.
“I confronted him. He admitted and again said he kept that from me for fear of losing me. He said he could not do without me, so he wants me as second wife. I said over my dead body.

… and the threats began
“As I gradually limited my contact with him, he introduced a catch phrase whenever the issue of breaking the relationship came up.
“He would say, ‘You can’t leave me. If you try it, I will so damage you that no man would want to look at you, so I will still be the only one to marry you.’

“I could tell from his anger and tone, whenever he says it, that this was no empty threat, but I needed to get out of the affair.
“I trained as a hair stylist and work for a salon owner, while also doing home service for some clients on Sundays.

“One Sunday, I was home fixing a customer’s hair when my phone rang. It was Austin’s call so I ignored it.
“Usually, he is very jealous and gets upset if he does not know my whereabouts and cannot get me on the phone for a second and he can beat me for that.
Pulling a knife; the acid bath
“At night at Ugolo that day, he pulled a knife from the kitchen, threatening to kill me, saying he saw a man taking me out the period I failed to pick his call.

“I was afraid he could harm me so I refused confrontation with him before he dropped the knife. Next morning, he came to my work place apologizing for his action after complaining to my madam.
“The evening of the Monday (February 25, 2013) preceding the Sunday he threatened me with a knife at Ugolo, I refused his calls again after closing from work and went to my parents’ home.
“He then called my younger sister, asking if my parents were home. That was about midnight.
“It was very hot that night. At some minutes to 1am, February 26, I had just my towel tied on me when I slept close to the window.

“Suddenly, I heard and felt a shower of liquid from outside through the window. The person aimed and poured it all over my body as I lay faced up.
“Immediately, I started shouting, ‘Igwe (Austin) had poured acid on me’ repeatedly and ran out as the liquid was burning my body. I saw him running away.”
A father’s story
Her father, Pastor Osimen, said he and the wife, Caroline, were at their farmhouse at Orega, along Sapele Road, where they farm most weekdays before retiring home to the children and church service on Sunday, when he got a distressing message.

He said: “I was contacted after she had been rushed to the Ekpan General Hospital. I returned from the farming expedition and lodged complaint at the Ekpan Police Division.
“We could not focus on the police case because saving my daughter’s life first was uppermost.
“From Ekpan General Hospital, she was referred to the Oghara Teaching Hospital, Oghara in Delta State. From there, she was referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, in Benin, Edo State.

“She was under intensive care at UBTH for almost a year with the medical bill rising to N2 million, way beyond my purse. But by some divine intervention, some persons from the Edo State government, I guess, came and settled the huge bill before she was discharged.”
Arrested
Pastor Osimen asserted, “back to Delta at the close of 2014, we opened the case to prosecute Austin at the Warri Area Command.

“After two years in hiding, within which even his uncle at Aka Avenue also relocated to unknown location, the police caught him, last month.”
It was learned that a source who knew him, noticed that he was in custody at the Ekpan Police Station, having been arrested and brought from Lagos in connection with a kidnap case.

According to Juliet’s father, “when I met him at Ekpan Police Station, I said to him, ‘Igwe is this you?’ he replied, ‘Daddy, I beg.’
“I said, ‘you are begging to go free after deliberately maiming my daughter?’”

N5m lifeline to save a soul
Austin’s trial was supposed to start, Thursday, January 29, at an Effurun court in the state.

At press time, the suspect was on remand at the Warri prisons.
Juliet’s doctor said at least N5 million was required for further treatment abroad to further manage the dreadful scars of the acid burns, especially her face and the chest region, as well as the health challenges the attack still posed to her.

Juliet said: “It is hard to explain how bad and demoralized I feel over this condition I have found myself.
“I am, however, very grateful to God and those who have assisted me. But I need to be able to fulfill my dreams in life. I was to sit for JAMB before the attack.
“I still want to get higher education; I still want to be useful to myself. Now I can hardly do anything meaningful.”
Joined by his wife, Pastor Osimen said: “We are appealing to the public to please help us and our daughter with donations to go to India for her surgery.

“May God help you as you send your donations to Osimen Sunday, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, account number, 3054669825.”

President Jonathan promises to maintain freedom of expression

Arguably, President Jonathan is one of the most criticized Nigerian President on social media platform but interestingly he hasn't gauged the level of people's expression via the social media platforms like facebook or twitter.
He once again promised to maintain freedom of expression. President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday reaffirmed the promised that he would not run Nigeria like a zoo if given second term in office.
He said he would run a government that would give room for freedom of expression without any fear of intimidation.
Jonathan made the promise during the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, Kwara State.
He said he would not oversee a government under which Nigerians would be thinking they were in a zoo, where small animals would be afraid of the big ones.
He said, “My message to you is that we will work with you to ensure that Nigerians are free. We will ensure that you are not governed by intimidation.
“You must be able to express yourself without fear of intimidation. That is why I signed the Freedom of Information Act.
“We will not allow a situation where Nigerians will think they are in a zoo, where small animals are afraid of the big ones.”
He said since the inception of his administration, he had shown commitment to re-positioning the country.
The President said his administration had done so much that he would not disappoint Nigerians.
He mentioned some of the areas his administration had made giant leaps to include railway, health care, agriculture and the economy.
The President said world bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Cable News Network and others had spoken in support of the visible growth in the nation’s economy.
He wondered if Nigerians who criticised his government’s economic policies were more brilliant than the world bodies.
President Jonathan warned such people to stop deceiving Nigerians.

Ohaneze Ndigbo endorses Jonathan, urges Igbos to vote for him

Igbo apex ruling body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Monday in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election.
President of Ohanaeze in Anambra State, who is also the chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo State Presidents Forum, Chris Eluemunoh, said that the seven presidents-general of the seven states that make up the Igbo nation which include, Anambra; Chris Elumunoh, Enugu; Dr Eric Ebeh, Imo; Dr Ezechi Chukwu , Abia; Chief Emmanuel Oparanta, Ebonyi; Pius Nwankwo, Rivers; Prince Igo Okparamma and Delta; Ifeanyichukwu Onwukamike, resolved to endorse Jonathan because of the need to implement the national conference recommendations.
In a communiqué signed by the seven presidents-general, they posited that since the All Progressive Congress (APC), opted out of the conference, it meant that the initiator, President Jonathan would be voted to implement it.
It reads: “Considering the realities of the forthcoming 2015 general elections, Ohanaeze Ndigbo State Presidents forum, has objectively made a critical assessment of the scenario and our findings revealed that the implementation of the just concluded National Conference resolutions is both timely and necessary for the sake of equity, fairness and common good of all Nigerians as an entity”.
The group stated that since President Jonathan convened the national conference, it was logical to re-elect him so he can implement the confab resolutions.
“In view of the forgoing, the Ohanaeze state presidents forum, therefore, endorses President Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election and urges all Ndigbo in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja to vote massively for him,” the group added.
On the crises rocking the apex Igbo body, they stated that Chief Enwo Igariweh and Dr. Joe Nworgu remained the President-General and Secretary General of the body.
“We disassociate ourselves and condemn herewith illicit and inordinate activities of Chief Mbazulike Amaechi and his cohorts in their bid to undermine the integrity of the duly elected National Executive Council (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo”.
The leaders noted that Chief Mbazulike and cohorts lacked the locus standi, statutory legitimacy and moral wherewithal to decimate or truncate the constitutional four year term of the Igariweh-led executive .
“Mbazulike is neither the leader nor spokesperson of Ndigbo and should refrain from parading himself as same.
“Mbazulike and his cohorts are running the risk of extensive sanctions from Ohanaeze Ndigbo if they do not desist from their well-established antithetical utterances and inimical activities geared toward denigrating the present Ohanaeze Ndigbo NEC and the corporate integrity of Ohanaeze”, they added.
The forum also condemned the alleged bombing of its secretariat by an unscrupulous elements in the night of Jan. 24, 2015 and implored security operatives to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime to face the wrath of the law. Culled
