The Lagos State Government has asked residents to help the police in fighting crime by reporting criminal activities in their areas.
The government urged all residents to take advantage of the anonymous platforms of telephone calls and text messages to make such reports.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication, Kehinde Bamigbetan, spoke during the monthly meeting of Community Development Committees and Neighbourhood Watch Security outfit with other stakeholders across the state, a statement said on Sunday.
According to Bamigbetan, there should be a synergy between the police and the people, whereby the police will be able to flush out the bad eggs among residents.
He said, “Some of the successes we recorded concerning security in the state happened because Governor Akinwunmi Ambode practices inclusive governance where every one of us is carried along at every point.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Security, Mr. Yinka Akinrinde, said Ambode was passionate about security in the state.
“The governor is interested in making the state crime-free for investors, hence the procurement of state-of-the-art gadgets for the police which have reduced criminal activities in Lagos State,” he said.
The representative of the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ebuka, said the CP had mandated all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to have regular interactive sessions with stakeholders in the community.
He urged the people to call the police in case of any security threat, saying the police would respond promptly.
Ebuka stressed the need for people to get close to the police, adding that, “working together with us will help us close in on the criminals because the people kn0w the hoodlums more.”
Also present at the meeting were the Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quardri; Commander, Area F, ACP Edward Ajogun; the representative of the Special Adviser on Special Security, Mr. Rasheed Adeniji; and the directors in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.
