The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the National Museum, when fully refurbished by the state government, will generate employment opportunities for people in the state.
He spoke on Monday during an inspection of the museum alongside the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed at Onikan, Lagos.
The governor said his administration was determined to deploy everything within its disposal to tackle the problem of unemployment, especially among youths, artisans and young professionals.
He stated that the project would be completed before the celebration of the 50 years anniversary of the state next year.
He said, “We are not just doing this, we plan to complete the new museum for the Lagos at 50 celebration. This is more or less a legacy for the state government.
“We have a programme called THEAS (Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Arts and Sports) for excellence. This is not only about revenue generation; it is about job creation. My emphasis is about creating jobs for the lower strata and that is where you are going to get all our athletes, youths, drivers, artisans and others to be busy and keep them moving by combining everything that we have from sports and tourism. Before you know it, the Gross Domestic Product of Lagos will grow.”
Mohammed said he would spare nothing in ensuring that the project was a reality, adding that efforts would be put in place to ensure the completion within the stipulated time frame.
