President Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted an intimate screening of “Selma” at the White House on Friday.
The Obamas invited 40 people to the showing with director Ava DuVernay, star David Oyelowo and producer Oprah Winfrey. Also there was civil rights leader Rep. John Lewis, who nearly 50 years ago helped lead protesters across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, a scene featured in the movie.
They were joined by Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey, “Selma” co-producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, rapper Common and Gayle King.
A source said Michelle urged guests to “make yourselves at home,” adding they should consider themselves “at Barack and Michelle’s.” The prez praised the producers, DuVernay’s directing, and congratulated Oyelowo — who was there with his wife, Jessica, their kids and his proud father Stephen — for his performance as Martin Luther King Jr.
Obama added to the British actor, “As handsome as David is, I am sure we’ll see a lot more from his son, who is even more handsome.”
