How I survived cancer -- Okonjo-Iweala

A rare insight into the past physical challenge of the coordinating minister of the economy and minister of finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerged yesterday when she disclosed that she survived cancer 15 years ago affirming the scare is not the end of life.
She spoke at the service of songs for the late Oronto Douglas, special adviser to the president on research and documentation that held in Abuja last night.
The service was attended by a cross section of the society from civil society, government, the media, the clergy among others.
President Goodluck Jonathan was represented by Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, at the service which remarkably brought together his associates from both sides of the political divide including former Governor Kayode Fayemi, Pastor Tunde Bakare who brought greetings from General Muhammadu Buhari, ministers, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Senator-Elect Ben Murray Bruce, deputy managing director of Thisday, Mr. Kayode Komolafe among several others.
In her remarks at the occasion, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala said: “Oronto and I had two similarities in life, we both had cancer. I had my last surgery, 15 years ago and I shared my experience with him,” she said, narrating how she repeatedly sought to encourage him using her triumph over the disease.
Tributes from several speakers centered on how Oronto built bridges across political divides. Dr. Fayemi, Hon Uche Onyeogocha leading members of the All Progressives Congress, APC spoke in that direction and they were buttressed by Pastor Bakare.
Tributes also came from former Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State, Dr. Sam Amadi, chairman National Electricity Regulatory Commission, Rev. Nnimmo Bassey, Yinka Odumakin, Ken Saro Wiwa among others.
…Denies appointing PWC to audit NNPC
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday, denied appointing Price WaterHouse Coopers to conduct the forensic audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Reacting to a suit against her, filed by SIAO Partners, a group of three accounting firms, over breach of Nigeria’s local content laws, Okonjo-Iweala in a statement, wondered why the aggrieved firms could not do their work thoroughly to determine certain basic facts about the issue.
The statement, signed by her Special Adviser, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, said, “It has come to the attention of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that SIAO Partners, a group of three accounting firms, has filed a suit against her before a Lagos High Court. Be WARNED! I became blind after drinking ogogoro -- Ode-Irele survivor

One of the survivors of the Ode-Irele methanol poisoning, Mr. Olorunwa Jero, yesterday, recounted his ordeal in the throes of death. Jero, a father of six, who is a vulcaniser, narrated: “By the time I was brought here, I had gone blind. I could not identify my wife, I could not identify anything. I did not even know when I arrived here.
“But I thank God and the management and staff of University College Hospital, UCH, for bailing me out. I can see all of you here clearly. I can even identify the clothes each one of you is putting on.”
The victim commended the teaching hospital for its timely medical intervention which he said saved his life.
Meantime, UCH management, yesterday, confirmed that five victims of Ode-Irele methanol poisoning were responding to treatment.
The victims were said to have taken the methanol while consuming a local gin.
Confirming that the toxin was detected in the blood and urine of the victims, Professor Temitope Alonge, Chief Medical Director, UCH, said the five victims were transferred to the teaching hospital on April 18 adding that they had regained their lost sight as a result of taking the chemical.
Alonge, who said this while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, warned people to be wary of taking local gin so as to avoid s similar unpleasant experience.
According to the CMD, series of tests were carried out on the victims and the samples of the three drinks they took.
The medical practitioner said: “On April 18, the Consultant Pathologist with the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Osasan, called to seek the assistance of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, in the management of five patients who survived the Ode-Irele neuro-toxicity saga who were completely blind.
‘’We agreed to take over the management of the patients but requested for the samples of the local gin that were incriminated along the fresh blood and urine samples of the patients.
‘’I contacted the consultant neurologist on call, Dr. Steeve Oluwole for a comprehensive evaluation of the patients because of the clinical presentation of the patients that had died and the ones that survived since they all pointed to neurotoxicity.
‘’In addition, the clinical pharmacologists led by Professor Catherine Falade, the laboratory scientists and specialists advisers to the hospital, Professor Segun Ademowo, were all contacted for the biochemical analyses of the blood of these patients as well as the urine in addition to the three samples of local gin that was reportedly consumed by the patients.
He added that all the relevant health personnel worked for almost two weeks before they detected the likely cause of the neurotoxicity exemplified by sudden blindness and correlated their findings with the toxicants in the blood, urine and the local gin samples.

OMG! Mother tortures, abandons son at filling station

A nine-year-old boy, identified only as Kingsley, was on Thursday abandoned at a filling station at Adetola bus stop on Ijaiye Road, Agbado, Lagos State, by his mother.
It was learnt that the mother, Blessing, allegedly tortured him for greeting a neighbour.
She was said to have brought the boy from Ojuelegba, where they live and dumped him at the station around 7am.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Blessing left the area after telling the child that she wanted to buy some items at a nearby shop.
Some Good Samaritans, however, later bought food for the kid before he was taken to the Ijaiye Police Station around 11am.
Kinglsey’s body was full of scars for which he held his mother responsible.
“Mummy beat me because I greeted our neighbour. She and the neighbour are quarrelling and she warned me not to greet her. She beat me with a stick when she saw me with the woman,” Kingsley said.
The primary two pupil said he had been a victim of malnutrition and abuse since her parents divorced each other.
“My mother and I moved to Lagos from Calabar (Cross River State) after she divorced my daddy.
“I live in Ojuelegba with her and my stepfather, Jonathan. She beats me every day.
“She will give me lashes for not waking up early to do domestic chores. At times, she won’t give me food to punish me.”
An employee of the filling station, who gave his name only as Deji, lamented Kingsley’s situation. He said the mother would be attacked by an angry mob if she came back.
“I don’t know what the world is turning to. When some families are still praying to have children, a mother is maltreating her own to the point of dumping him. What could he have done to warrant being treated in such a heartless manner?
“This place was crowded in the morning and we did not know when she dumped him. He was sitting in a tricycle when I approached him. Some angry youths just left here. They would have given his mother the beating of her life if she had come back.”
A Good Samaritan, who did not want his name in print, said he saw the boy sitting helplessly in a corner in the filling station.
He added that the boy was so hungry that he gulped the food and drink that were bought for him.
He said, “I was coming back from the office and popped over to buy petrol.
“I saw the boy sitting in a corner. There was blood in his head and hands. We decided to buy him rice and a drink. He was taken to the Ijaiye Police Station and they promised to take him to hospital to treat his injuries.”
The Supervisor of the filling station, Adeola Olufunwa, said she was nearly detained at the station on the matter.
She said, “I was the one who noticed the boy’s presence around us and I alerted my colleagues.
“But funny enough, the police wanted to detain me for a case I knew nothing about.”
The Lagos Police Spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, promised to get back to our correspondent.

Oh NO! Man hangs self in uncompleted building

A young man has been found dead in an uncompleted building on Sefu Elelede Street in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the man, whose name had yet to be known, was found hanged by an electrician who had come to inspect the house.
It was gathered that the deceased, who was found in jeans and shirt, hanged himself in the living room section of the uncompleted structure.
Our correspondent gathered that the electrician, identified simply as John, who saw the corpse, raised the alarm.
It was learnt that the owner of the house went to report the matter at the Ibafo Police Division.
Policemen from the division, accompanied by a medical practitioner, were said to have visited the building to remove the corpse.
The doctor reportedly confirmed that the man was dead, and had committed suicide in the building for about five days before the discovery.
When PUNCH Metro visited the area, the landlady, who identified herself simply as Okpute, said she had sent the electrician to inspect the structure for necessary electrification work, adding that the worker rushed back to inform her about the gory sight.
She said, “On Wednesday, I called John to inspect my structure and give me the estimate on electrification work of the house. I gave him the key to the compound. The building is fenced and it is a storey building.
“To my surprise, he ran back after some minutes, gasping for breath. He told me that a young man had hanged himself inside the uncompleted house.
“We both went there together and found the man. Then, I went to the police to make a report and they also visited the place. I have never seen such a horrible thing in my life.”
Our correspondent gathered that the body was bloated when it was discovered.
PUNCH Metro learnt that a community leader in Sefu Elelede, Chief Jimoh Morenikeji, and other landlords visited the building to identify who the deceased was, but his face was said to be unfamiliar.
Morenikeji told our correspondent that his community members would work with the police to investigate the matter.
“This is strange. We do not know the young man. We will work with the police to get to the root of the matter,” he said.
It was gathered that the corpse had been deposited in a morgue in the area.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.

My life is in danger – Abia State REC cries out

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Abia State, Professor Selina Oko, in this interview with PUNCH correspondent, STEPHEN UKANDU, speaks about the controversies surrounding the state’s governorship election
What is your personal assessment of the conduct of the elections in Abia? Do you think the Independent National Electoral Commission has done well so far?
INEC has done well except that the politicians would not allow INEC to do what it is supposed to do. The party agents were interfering and they were not supposed to interfere. They are observers not monitors but they kept interfering and dictating to INEC field officers. So, it slowed down the process. There are lots and lots of false information being dished out to the public by politicians. The parties are very desperate and they want to misinform the public to whip up sentiments.
There have been a lot of allegations of financial inducements by various parties against INEC officials – both permanent and ad hoc staff. Are you aware of this?
I just read them in the papers. Nobody has brought to us any evidence of such inducements but I do hear it as allegations. Some also sent me text messages about that saying “your staff are compromised.”
Have you tried to investigate?
Do you think if I ask them, ‘are you compromised?’ they will say ‘yes’? What I do is to warn them that if I get any report and it is true, they will face the music. But I didn’t ask them ‘is it true?’ They will normally say no.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, alleged that his All Progressive Grand Alliance counterpart, Dr. Allex Otti, induced you with a whopping N300 million?
Tell him to produce evidence. Since he even knows the amount, it means he has evidence. So, let him produce it. And he should know that when you know of a crime and you don’t report it you are also committing a crime. He is committing a crime for not reporting it to the police. He is supposed to report to the police and not to level wild allegation in the media. He is supposed to report it to law enforcement officers and he has not done so. So he is committing a crime.
How do you intend to handle the situation if he fails to produce evidence as you have demanded?
No comment yet on how I will handle him.
He also alleged that you are Otti’s aunt. Is that true?
He is a liar. He does not know me. I did not know Otti until I came to Abia. I think Otti is from Abia. I am from Afikpo in Ebonyi State. He should go to Afikpo and trace my linage and see whether there is any link at all between me and Otti. I have never known Otti until this time. They are cooking up stories just to whip up sentiments. Besides if I am Otti’s aunt why should I then collect N300 million from him?
One of such people whose allegation I read in black and white is the so-called National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh. He said I am related to Otti. How can somebody at his level get information and not bother to verify it? All he did was to rush to the media and put it in black and white. There is something wrong with him. He is not fit to be a leader.
Both the PDP and APGA have been levelling all kinds of allegations against you and your staff. But the PDP in particular has passed a vote of no confidence in you and called for your removal as well as the Returning Officer, Professor Benjamin Ozumba.
On what grounds?
They said you are compromised.
Let them produce evidence. You don’t just say one is compromised. You produce evidence to support the allegation.
But has any politician or political party at all attempted to bribe you?
How can you ask me that type of question? You know politicians and when I answer, they will say tell us the person. Please, don’t ask me that type of question.
How do you feel about all these especially when you are trying to do your best and nobody seems to be appreciating your efforts?
It is irritating because you bring out your mind to do the work the way it should be done and people are unnecessarily trying to poison the minds of the populace. But I will not be deterred. I will still do what I know is the right thing. The Returning Officer announced that the election was inconclusive. And it was based on facts. The law says when the margin of lead between the highest scorer and the runner-up is smaller than the total number of registered voters in the polling units where election was not done or results were cancelled, there should be a rerun.
Recall that out of the 439,454 total votes cast, PDP scored 248,459 while APGA got 165,406 votes. The 83,053 margin of lead is less than the 175,532 total number of registered voters in the polling units where election did not hold or results were cancelled. That was why the exercise was declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer and the position of the Electoral Act on this is very clear. But PDP has been claiming that its candidate is leading and we failed to declare him winner. That is not the truth.
The PDP has also maintained that the Returning Officer lacked the powers to cancel the results of the poll from the three council areas of Osisioma , Obingwa , and Isiala Ngwa-North. This perhaps led to the reversal of the cancellation which APGA has also been protesting. What is your take about the entire drama?
The information we got was that the place was characterised by a lot of irregularities and that the results should be cancelled. Then the Returning Officer did that but when people raised objection, it was looked into again that instead of the blanket cancellation, let us isolate the polling units that had problems. And that was why he isolated those polling units and cancelled them.
But APGA has been going about telling its supporters that the cancellation of results in the entire three councils subsists. But you just explained it was only in the polling units that had problems. So, whose report should we believe?
The Returning Officer has made his statement by collating the results of the polling units and also the results of polling units together with the strength of voters there. And now established the polling units that should be cancelled and he has done that.
The visit by the Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, midway into the collation of results on April 12 has been raising dust in some quarters. Some people accuse him of interrupting the collation while the PDP says he has the right to protest the cancellation which it claims was a conspiracy against its candidate. What exactly happened?
He came in and said he wanted to see me at my office, and I followed him to my office.
So, what transpired in your office?
He asked me what was happening and I told him the information we got and the instruction we received. But then when the commotion continued, we got clearance and we were told ‘now look at the individual polling units and know the ones where there were irregularities or whatever.’ And that was what happened.
You said you received instruction; from who?
INEC National Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega.
Some people speculate that it was likely you were intimidated or induced during the meeting to reverse the cancellation. Could you clear the air?
I was neither intimidated nor induced by anybody. Such speculations are incorrect. People just sit down and cook up something to achieve their aim.
But frankly, what is your personal view or interpretation of the visit?
This was a collation centre. He was not supposed to visit, anyway. But somebody is trying to justify it that he only came to protest the cancellation. Well, when he came he said he wanted to see me. He did not sit at the place where we were collating results.
But some people say it was not right for him to step into the collation centre at all? Do you agree with them?
It is not for me to say whether or not it is right.
How prepared is INEC for the April 25 rerun?
We are very much prepared. Security is now tighter especially as the places involved are few. We have enough security to police the areas involved.
What about your staff? Are you going to import ad hoc staff from outside the state as being demanded by some parties?
What is your message to voters in the areas where this exercise will hold?
My appeal to voters and ‘Abians’ in general is to allow the electoral process go on according to the electoral law.
Are you under any threat from any quarters?
Yes, I have been getting calls threatening my life. I have been getting text messages about how they will shoot me through the window of my car.
Have you reported the threats to the security agencies?
Yes, I have. I told them that my life is being threatened.
After this time, if you are asked to do INEC job again would you be willing to do it or would you like to return to the classroom from where you came?
(Laughs) Let me finish this one first before I will know whether I would do it again or not.

What? New York judge grants human rights to chimpanzees

Chimpanzee and human DNA differ by only about 1 percent – but should chimps be given human rights? A US judge said "yes" on Monday, ruling that apes held at a New York university are covered by the same laws that let humans challenge their detention.
New York Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jaffe said a pair of chimpanzees held at Stony Brook University are covered by a writ of habeas corpus – a legal principle that lets people challenge the credibility of their detention. The duo, named Hercules and Leo, reside at the university for research purposes.
The lawsuit against the university was originally filed by the Nonhuman Rights Project in December 2013, in an attempt to free Hercules, Leo, and two other chimpanzees living on private property.
The courts threw out the suit, but the group has been appealing ever since, receiving a victory on Monday after convincing Jaffe that the apes are sufficiently intelligent enough to be covered under habeas corpus.
The verdict has allowed for a Stony Brook University representative to be ordered to appear in court to provide a legally acceptable reason for detaining Hercules and Leo. That hearing has been scheduled for May 6.
During the hearing, the university will respond to a petition by the animal rights group which argues that Hercules and Leo should be set free and moved to a sanctuary.
“The NhRP (Nonhuman Rights Project) has asked that Hercules and Leo be freed and released into the care of Save the Chimps, a sanctuary in Ft. Pierce, Florida. There they will spend the rest of their lives primarily on one of 13 artificial islands on a large lake in Ft. Pierce, along with 250 other chimpanzees in an environment as close to that of their natural home in Africa as can be found in North America,” the Nonhuman Rights Project wrote on its website.
However, it remains unclear whether the chimps will actually be freed.
Richard Cupp, a law professor at Pepperdine University, cautioned against reading too much into the ruling.
“The judge may merely want more information to make a decision on the legal personhood claim, and may have ordered a hearing simply as a vehicle for hearing out both parties in more depth,” he wrote in an email to Science. “It would be quite surprising if the judge intended to make a momentous substantive finding that chimpanzees are legal persons if the judge has not yet heard the other side’s arguments.”
Regardless of whether the apes are granted personhood after the hearing, the group says it plans on using the ruling as precedent in future cases.
“This is a big step forward to getting what we are ultimately seeking: the right to bodily liberty for chimpanzees and other cognitively complex animals,” Natalie Prosin, executive director of the Nonhuman Rights Project, told the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
“We got our foot in the door. And no matter what happens, that door can never be completely shut again.”
A similar ruling was made in Argentina last year, with orangutans being granted the status of “non-human persons” with legal rights.
However, the verdict contradicts a separate New York ruling made just four months ago, when a court stated that a chimpanzee is not legally a person and therefore not entitled to human rights. Culled
Guys do u agree with the judge?

Deposed Egyptian leader, Mohammed Morsi sentenced to 20-yrs in prison

A court in Egypt has sentenced former President Mohammed Morsi to 20 years in prison over the killing of protesters while he was still in power.
It is the first ruling he has faced since his ousting and is one of several upcoming trials he faces.
Mr Morsi was deposed by the army in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.
Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood party and arrested thousands of his supporters.
Mr Morsi and several other Muslim Brotherhood leaders were accused of inciting supporters to kill a journalist and opposition protesters in clashes outside the presidential palace in late 2012.

Morsi's trials

This court case is one of several upcoming trials Mr Morsi faces. They include:
  • Colluding with foreign militants in a plot to free Islamists in mass prison breaks during the 2011 uprising against Hosni Mubarak
  • Espionage and conspiring to commit terrorist acts in Egypt with the Palestinian movement Hamas, Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guards
  • Endangering national security by leaking state secrets and sensitive documents to Qatar via the Doha-based Al Jazeera network
  • As crowds grew outside the palace, Mr Morsi ordered the police to disperse them.
They refused, so the Muslim Brotherhood brought in their own supporters. Eleven people died in the ensuing clashes, mostly from the Brotherhood.
Ahead of the verdict, the Brotherhood accused one-time army chief and now President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi of using the judiciary "as a weapon".
Mr Morsi himself has rejected the authority of the courts, shouting during his first trial that he was the victim of a military coup.
On Monday, a court sentenced 22 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death for an attack on a police station in Cairo, part of an ongoing crackdown against the Brotherhood. Culled

19-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy after having sex with a snake

19-year-old Kehinde Adegoke, a teenager who is an indigene of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, reveals how she had sex with a snake in her dream for four years and eventually got pregnant without any physical relationship with any man.
According to Tribune, Kehinde was delivered of a baby boy in the early hours of March 28, 2015 and the baby came complete fangs protruding from its lower jaw. It however died on Sunday, March 29 without any ill health pinned to it.
Narrating her story, Kehinde said:
“My parents live in Niger but I am from Ogbomoso, Oyo State. I was troubled by an unseen spirit. I would see the snake beside me. The snake would then turn to a Fulani man who would have intercourse with me. It started about four years ago.
After the intercourse, the Fulani man would turn to a snake again and leave. Whenever I woke up, I would not see any semen indicating that I had sexual intercourse. But in the dream, he would climax and release in me.
I have never had any man who wooed me in real life and looked like the man. His face was strange. The Fulani man also used to appear to me in real life, but I was the only person who would see him. He dared not see me with any man, even if the person was my brother. He would frown and warn me off the man. This would make me change my countenance to whomever I was talking with.
Also, if I wanted to tell my parents what I was experiencing, he would appear and warned me against revealing anything. That was why the experience I was having spanned some years.”
Her life story changed when she discovered she was pregnant towards the end of 2014. According to her, “I noticed that I was pregnant in October 2014. My stomach started protruding and the change in me was noticed by my mother and neighbours. They asked whether I was pregnant and I said no. Though I did not see my menses, my thinking was that it was a temporary reaction and that it would still come since I didn’t have sexual intercourse.
“When I went to a hospital to carry out a pregnancy test, it was positive. I was surprised because I did not have intercourse with any man. My parents did not believe me and were furious with me. I was so confused that I left Minna for Ogbomoso in Oyo State.
At Ogbomoso, someone told me about a church, Joyous Miracle Gospel Church and Ministries a.k.a. Iyanu Ayo. I met the founder, Apostle Johnson Olayinka Afolabi a.k.a. Okoto Jesu. He asked me to go through marathon and dry fasting which spanned 41 days.
After the fasting, I did not feel anything in my tummy again. All I noticed was that my stomach would be flat whenever I woke up in the morning but it would protrude immediately I ate. I went through another fast in March after which I experienced my miracle.”
The miracle happened on March 27.
At about 9 a.m., I started feeling stomach pain. Nothing was moving in me. I took some drugs and the pain subsided. It started again and I had to go to Prophet Afolabi . He prayed into water which he asked me to drink. The pain did not subside.
By evening, the pain had become unbearable. Prophet was told and he blessed water again and sent it to me through one of his pastors. After drinking the water the second time, I vomited. The vomit was smelly. That was all I knew as I passed out.
I did not know how I got to the hospital. I learnt Okoto Jesu poured water in the church bell and rang the bell seven times, commanding all evil spirits in me to vanish in the name of Jesus. I was then taken to a private hospital (names withheld).
I became fully conscious of my environment during deday, March 29.Since then, I have been delivered and free from manipulations of the spirit world. I no longer see the snake or the Fulani man.”
Kehinde also disclosed that she had familiar spirit and belonged to a group of destroyers (egbe abatenije), though she went through deliverance in 2011. Before the deliverance, she said she used to see herself in the midst of other children, with all of them adorning black garments.

She also revealed that she was initiated into a demonic group by four women whom she knew physically, though saying that two of them were dead. But all that had become a thing of the past, she stated.
The account of the girl was corroborated by Prophet Afolabi who is popularly called Okoto Jesu. According to him,

When Kehinde was brought to our church, we pressed her stomach but couldn’t feel any pregnancy. We told her to go through dry fast.
She fasted for three days three times making a total of nine days and she did it without any adverse effect, which could not have been so if she was pregnant. She also observed white fast. The prayers offered her and the water given to drink turned the demons in her into a human form which came out as a baby.
Even when she was taking to the hospital, the nurse who examined her said she was still a virgin, which confirmed that she was indeed possessed. It was simply God at work.” Okoto Jesu said that a case like that of Kehinde had never happened in his church “though we have had cases of women who were pregnant for six, seven years but delivered when they got here.”
Kehinde’s mother, Mrs Adegoke, told Sunday Tribune that Kehinde was a strange child right from when she was in her womb, saying that the twin brother died at birth. She disclosed that when Kehinde was undergoing deliverance session in 2011, she was rolling on the ground and screaming that witches should leave her alone as she was no longer willing to be their tool.

OMG! Woman posed as social worker to murder new mom and steal her baby

A 36-year-old Indiana woman now in police custody is suspected of carrying out a twisted plot of kidnapping and killing a young mother in order to steal the victim's newborn baby and claim the child as her own.
The suspect, who has not been identified, lives in Gary, Indiana, where the body of the victim, Samantha Fleming, was found Friday wrapped up in plastic and doused with bleach.
Police believe the woman went to the home of 23-year-old Fleming in Anderson, 180 miles away, posing as a Child Protective Services employee and convinced Fleming to come with her to Gary.
Fleming recently gave birth to a daughter, Serenity, and lives with her boyfriend, but disappeared with her baby on April 5.
Incredibly, the baby has been found by police and is safe, CBS reported.
The suspect is said to have known a lot of personal information about Fleming and successfully posed as a case worker, leading Fleming to believe she had to attend a court hearing.
Fleming was reported missing by her boyfriend.
Police were led to Gary after Fleming's cell phone signal was picked up in the city, where the young mother's wallet was also found near an apartment block.
Police followed other leads to the suspect's home, but the woman wasn't there.
Investigators said they smelt a foul odor coming from the small one-story house.
Inside they found the body of a young woman that had been stabbed, covered in bleach, wrapped in plastic and stuffed in a plastic tub.
As officers searched the home, the suspect's sister came by.
She had a baby with her and was had come by to pick up some things.
Police quickly realized the baby was Serenity.
The sister told police the suspect had asked her to care for the baby and had gone to visit their mother in Texas.
The suspect is now said to be in police custody at a Texas hospital, where is she is under mental health care.
The infant was handed over to police by the sister, according to the Chicago Tribune
Police have not released the name of the suspect and no charges have been filed.
Lt. Thomas Pawlak told The Tribune that the suspect's house had been fitted out with a nursery.
'It appears that she had been planning this,' Pawlak told the newspaper.
'There was everything you would buy for a new baby. A crib, changing table, diaper bag, carrier, new clothes.'
A neighbor told the paper the suspect said she was pregnant with twins.
The neighbor said around Easter the suspect said one of the twins had died but that she had given birth, only the child was still in hospital with jaundice.
When the neighbor eventually saw the woman with the child, she said she found the baby to be 'lighter-skinned' than she expected. The woman also had a bandage on her hand.
The alleged kidnapper asked her neighbor to watch her house because she was going out of town.
Just days before the woman left, the neighbor said she saw her going back and forth from her house to her garage and carrying small plastic grocery bags.
The neighbor said they had been texting regularly since the woman left.
But when she texted the alleged kidnapper after she saw police enter her home on Friday, the messages stopped.
Pawlak believes the alleged kidnapper was very familiar with Fleming, and they are trying to work out how.
The woman is not believed to be affiliated with Child Protective Services in any way.
'She knew a lot about this mother,' he said.
'Enough to convince her she was with CPS.' CULLED
