Cultists shoot & kills UNILAG ‘big boy’

A 23-year-old student of the University of Lagos, Olubunmi Elusakin has been shot dead at a bar around St. Finbarrs in Akoka area of Lagos while relaxing with friends.
His assailants, suspected to be cultists and also students of UNILAG, walked up to him and shot him at point blank range where he sat, it was learnt.
Saturday PUNCH spoke with a student of the Department of Accounting, who said he knew the deceased.
“His parents had recently bought a new SUV for him. He was such a cool-headed man. But everybody knew him as one of the ‘big boys’ in the Faculty of Business Administration,” the student, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said.
Investigators at the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos, said the deceased was a 300-Level student.
“From investigation so far, the asailants were not even masked. Our findings revealed that he was sitting at a table inside a bar around St Finbarr’s when they walked inside and shot him in the head around 8pm last week Tuesday.” a source told our correspondent.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the remains of the deceased were buried on Wednesday, one week after the incident. An autopsy was conducted on the body on Tuesday.
Police are working on the suspicion that the deceased was killed as a reprisal for a grouse against the cultists even though it has not been established if Elusakin belonged to any cult group.
The Facebook wall of the deceased, who was fondly called BMoney by friends has been awash with condolence messages from associates.
“I still can’t believe you are gone B Money. You have always been the most decent and gentle guy I know but death has cut the long story short. Heck, I can’t hold the tears rolling down my eyes,” one friend, DamolaAjala wrote.
“I am feeling alone, I am feeling very sad. I don’t know about my heart. I am thinking about something is lost in my life. B Money, my one and only friend, best friend. Brother from different mother, I miss you so much,” Oladipo Dotun, who was said to be the deceased’s closest pal, wrote on Facebook.
Another friend, Habibat Adeyinka poured out her emotion, writing, “Bunmi, please wake up. I am ready to say yes. I am going to date you now. Please.”
A spokesperson for UNILAG, Mr. Olagoke Oke of the Information Unit, asked for more time to get details about the incident when contacted on Wednesday.
Four suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the attack.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, who confirmed this, stated that efforts were being made to track down the killers of the UNILAG student.
